Last Night Recap (4/6/11)

If you missed last night, you really missed an awesome night at flipside!!! We had about 120 in total attendance and week 3 of UFC was kicked off huge!!! It was “Extreme Night” and it was crazy. We played “Pass the Spam,” where guys and girls had a relay passing spam with their neck and then eat it. There was “Chee-toes,” where a guy and a girl teamed up and was fed Cheerios with their bare feet. There was also the  ”Marshmallow Drop,” where a guy and girl teamed up and one of them dropped chocolate covered marshmallows in their mouth from standing on a chair.  The last game was a flipside favorite, the “Food Relay,” we had bagged seven different items with a surprise in each one. It was crazy and a lot of fun to watch flipsiders totally do things they wouldn’t normally do with no fear at all!!! So, if you missed it, be sure to be here next Wednesday night as we wrap up UFC and also declare the winner of UFC 2011!!! Here are some notes from last night’s sermon:

  • Last nights urban legend was “More Than You Can Handle”
  • There are Christians all over world right now that feel like they have more than they can handle.
  • They feel overwhelmed and like the whole weight of the world is on their shoulders
  • In a way they want to blame God cause it seems like He is just allowing it to happen
  • We need to understand that God has a plan in the midst of these moments we feel like we have on us, more than we can handle.
  • People have said that God will not give us more than we can handle and that’s a lie, its an “Urban Legend.”
  • Lets look into the life of Moses, who had at times more than he could handle…
  • Read Number 11:13 & 14
  • Right here Moses had a lot going on
  • He goes from leading a small family to leading a nation and they are overwhelming him with all their complaining and whining
  • If we found ourselves in his shoes at this time, it would totally break up
  • The urban legend that God will not give us more than we can handle is misinterpreted in 1 Corinthians 10:13 (read that)….
  • The key word right there is tempted, God will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear
  • It doesn’t say that He wont give you more than you can handle, except for when it comes to dealing with temptation
  • In Numbers 11:13 & 14, you see how Moses reached his breaking point and it gets worst
  • The cool thing is that God comes through and offers him an alternative
  • Read Numbers 11:15-17….
  • God was aware of Moses’s situation and helped him out
  • Just like God is aware of our situation and wants to help us out as well
  • When you find yourself overwhelmed and dealing with a lot (more than you can handle)
  • There are three things we can do…
  • #1- Learn to put something down
  • Read Luke 10:41 & 42
  • Martha was so worried about what needed to be done and wasnt worried about what really mattered at the moment
  • Just like Martha, we need to think about what really is important and put somethings down.
  • #2- Learn to hand something off
  • Moses really needed to do that and you will see what I mean in the following scriptures…
  • Read Exodus 18:17 & 18 and then read verse 22 & 23 of the same chapter
  • There are somethings that we just need to take care of ourselves but there are a lot of things that you can just give to someone else
  • #3- Give it to God
  • Read Psalms 55:22
  • The word cast means to hurl or throw
  • God wants us to throw/hurl our problems to Him and He will hold us up!!!!
  • No where in the Bible does it say that He will not give us more than we can handle but it does say that He will never leave us or forsake us!!!
  • Trust in Him and cast your worries and whatever is overwhelming you on Him

Know that we are praying for you and also that we are here for you!!!

I was looking for an answer of where in the Bible does is say that God will not give us more than we can handle. I was please to find what I had already know that that statement is not in the Bible. Two years ago, I lot my husband of 35 years to a heart attack with no warning. Last month, I lost my 29 year old son to a heart attack. I am constant quoted this verse.
Night before last before I drifted off to sleep, I came to realize that the 23rd Psalm does have a new meaning to me.

Yea, though I walk through the shadow of death ( Boy, am I there)
I will fear no evil For Thou art with me. (He has never left me)
His rod and his staff they comfor me. (His rod defends me from his enemies, his staff returns me to the fold if I stray)
You preparest a table before me in the midst of my enemies (I know that I have heaven waiting for me even though i am in the midst of the battle)
You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows I am His, he provides for everything I need)
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life (He reward those who choose Him) and I shall dwell in the House of the Lord forever
    (I trust His promise)

God Bless! Thank you for being there.
