Last night at flipside (10/19)!!!

It was another good night at flipside!!! Worship was awesome and the message seemed to really challenge several students. We wrapped up our current series “Weird” and will begin a new one next week titled “Ghost.” Its really going to be good and I expect a lot of students to be challenged and inspired during this new series. If you missed last night, we really missed you. Here is a recap on what was hit on last night:

  • Last night we hit on a “Weird Way To Save The World”
  • Read Matthew 7:13 & 14…
  • Jesus was sent on the cross to die for us all, to basically save the world
  • When you read that scripture a few moments ago, you see that not everyone is saved…
  • Matter of fact, you have to make a choice.
  • Read John 3:16….
  • The key in that scripture is that WHOEVER BELIEVES shall not perish but have everlasting life
  • In the first part of Matthew 7:13, you see that you have to make the choice to enter through the narrow gate.
  • The sad thing is that many people think they are entering through the narrow gate, when in reality they are entering through the wide gate.
  • There are 2 different view that people have towards God and we looked at them last night…
  • #1- Religion: Man’s “normal” attempt to reach God
  • Read Isaiah 29:13….
  • That scripture may sum up your relationship with God.
  • You look at your “relationship” with God as a bunch of rules and regulations.
  • Because of that, God doesn’t even know who you are!!!
  • #2- Christ: God’s “weird” way to reach man
  • When we truly get a hold of Christ in our lives and don’t look at living for Him as a bunch of rules and regulations… It totally changes you.
  • Paul was one that one time look at his so called relationship as a bunch of rules and regulations.
  • Read Philippians 3:4-9…
  • He knew everything there was to know about the “rules and regulations” but he considered it rubbish to knowing Christ.
  • The word rubbish means waste, human/animal waste, and dung.
  • What really matters is that you know CHRIST
  • When you truly know Christ, then everything else will line up.
  • You will not be caught up in all the “rules” but you will be caught up in Christ.
  • Because you are so caught up in Him, everything else will come naturally.
  • It’s not about a “religion,” Its all about a RELATIONSHIP!!!
  • Read John 11:25 & 26…
  • Are you walking in a RELATIONSHIP or are you participating in a religion?
  • Whats weird about all this… God did send His son to save the world.
  • It lies in our hands to make the choice to believe in Him.

If you haven’t made that choice, make it now. Ask Him to come into your heart and live for Him. If you would like to talk to someone call 251-639-1959 and we will gladly talk to you. Hope to see you Sunday and next Wednesday night. Do your best to bring/invite someone to come with you and lets pack flipside out!!!

5th Quarter Dodgeball Tourney Cancelled

Just wanted to give you a heads up and let you all know that we have cancelled 5th Quarter for this Friday night. There were no teams that registered last night during flipside and we felt it would be best to cancel this event.

Look forward to seeing you on Wednesday night and be sure to sign up for the Habitat for Humanity project that we will be working with on the 22 of October. You must be 14 or older and have a permission slip . You can easily find that form in flipsides foyer on the registration/info table.

flipside recap (10/12)!!!

Last night was another great night at flipside!!! Worship was awesome and the message got a nice response at the end of service. If you missed last night, we really missed  you and hope you can join us next week for flipside. We hit on part 3 of our current series “Weird: Weird Desires,” here is a brief recap:

  • We constantly find ourselves around “normal” people and we know what they desire and what they are willing to do to get it.
  • Our desires shouldn’t be the same as those of this world but it should be different.
  • Read 1 John 2:16 & 17….
  • In reading that you see that it totally explains the world around us.
  • NORMAL PEOPLE WANT WHAT THEY WANT NOT, NOT LATER
  • We all can relate to that because at one time or another we have seen something we wanted and felt like we couldn’t live if we didn’t have it.
  • Read Luke 15:12….
  • This son got what he wanted but in the end lost it all.
  • He was thinking like “normal” people and wasn’t thinking like “few” people do.
  • NORMAL PEOPLE ALSO ARE WILLING TO TRADE THE ULTIMATE FOR THE IMMEDIATE
  • Read Genesis 25:29-32…
  • Esau was the first born and had the rights for everything once his father passed away.
  • He gave his birth right for a bowl of stew.
  • So, what is your bowl of stew?
  • Do you realize that we give our birth right away for a bowl of stew more than you realize?
  • Let me explain…
  • We all our God’s children, He has a place set aside for us in heaven.
  • We first have to make that choice to live for Him and then that place is set for us in heaven.
  • Its reserved but we need to show up!! We confirm our reservation when we make the decision to live for Him. We show up when we die on this earth and live forever with Him in heaven.
  • BUT, we a lot of times give in to our “desires” and “wants” and totally give it all away for a “bowl of stew.”
  • Just like Esau, we give our birthright away for something we felt like we needed at the moment or couldn’t live without.
  • WEIRD PEOPLE KNOW LATER IS OFTEN BETTER THAN NOW
  • Read Provers 16:32…
  • There have been so many times in my life that if I would of just waited, I would of been better off.
  • WEIRD PEOPLE SEEK GOD UNTIL HIS DESIRES BECOME THEIR DESIRES
  • Read Psalm 37:4…..
  • Delight means a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment or something that gives great pleasure.
  • So, if you find yourself delighting in the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart.
  • When you are fully entrenched in your relationship with God, His desires become your desires.
  • You will no longer find yourself desiring things you have no reason to desire.
  • Your relationship with God will be taken to another level!!!
  • We all need to be led by the Spirit…
  • Read Galatians 5: 16 & 17….
  • That’s what its all about. The Holy Spirit is there to guide us and direct us.
  • Though, a lot of times we like to press the “mute” button and not listen to Him.
  • I rather would have what God desires for me.
  •  He knows whats best for you and I.

Hope to see you next week and try your best to bring/invite someone to come with you!! Let’s pack flipside out and come expecting God to do something in your life.

What’s going on?

Tomorrow night is flipside and we hope to see you there!!! Be sure to do what you can to bring/invite someone to come with you. We got a lot coming up and you should do what you can to be all in it!!!! This Friday night:

We need at least 5 PAID teams tomorrow to make this event possible tomorrow night!! Be sure to bring your $$$$!!! If we have that many registered tomorrow night, we will open it up for more teams to join on Friday night and we will continue with the event as scheduled.

Also, we have a great opportunity for you to serve in the community next Saturday morning (10/22). We will be working with Habitat for Humanity in the West Mobile Area and we need at least 10-15 flipsiders to help with this project. Be sure to pick up a permission slip tomorrow night and you will also have a chance to pick one up next week as well!!

Past Wednesday Night (10/5)!!!

Sorry, for the delay on the update. I just got back in town from a great conference in Atlanta and didn’t have a way of giving you a recap on Wednesday night.

It was a great crowd and everything was great!!! Worship and the message was awesome!!! We had a great response at the end of the message and God really did some great things in students lives. Here is a recap of the sermon:

  • We hit on Part 2 of the “Weird” series with: Weird is Better (if you missed last week or forgot what we hit on, scroll down and check it out.)
  • Read 1 Peter 1:15 & 16
  • Very few people are holy and you can see that God called us to be holy.
  • To be holy means to be pure, to set apart, to be different.
  • We are to live our lives in a way that is dedicated totally to God and separate from sin.
  • The key is separation, not living in it, but to have distance.
  • We all make mistakes and God sees them as that, but there is a difference when we deliberately do something.
  • A lot of us see holiness as something we can not achieve but it is something that we are all capable of achieving.
  • One of the main things that is keep students from living a life of being holy is peer pressure.
  • Peer pressure is something that everyone faces and even King David faced peer pressure.
  • Read Psalms 69:9-12
  • David has this huge passion for God but is constantly facing opposition from all directions, just like many of you are.
  • You are facing that constant pressure not to be “weird” but to be normal.
  • There are 2 different types of peer pressure that we face everyday of our lives…
  • #1- The inward pressure: The need to please
  • We all have this desire to “fit in” or to be “cool”
  • So, we find ourselves saying “Yes” to things that we should be saying “No” to.
  • Read Proverbs 29:25…
  • Our desire to fit in/please everyone will totally cause us to miss what God has for us.
  • #2- The outward pressure: Criticism
  • To me for example, I really didn’t have a hard time saying “No” but what really bothered me was when people talked behind my back.
  • No one wants to be criticized behind their backs.
  • Here are a couple of scriptures that I hope will encourage you…
  • Read John 15:18-20…
  • Read Matthew 5:10-12…
  • So, we see that we were not the only ones that face persecution for what we believe in and also that we will be blessed for the criticism we face
  • The main thing we need to understand is this…. YOU CAN’T PLEASE EVERYONE, BUT YOU CAN PLEASE GOD.
  • Which is more important?????????
  • Read 1 Thessalonians 2:4….
  • To be weird is better in the long run.
  • Lets not cave in to the pressure of this world!!!

If you missed last Wednesday night, I hope to see you there. We will hit on: “Weird Desires.” Come expecting God to do something awesome in your life this coming Wednesday night!!!

KINECT THIS SUNDAY NIGHT!!!

KINECT groups are meeting this Sunday night and for this session we are going to be at 2 different locations. All the guys will meet at Krispy Kreme Doughnut off of Hillcrest Road from 5-6 PM and the ladies will meet at Chill off of Airport Road (near Buffalo Wild Wings) at the same time.

KINECT is designed for all flipsiders to get “connected” with one another. We have so many people come and go in flipside and the reason they leave a lot of times is because they don’t “kinect” with anyone. This gives you a chance to meet other flipsiders in a different setting and get to know one another. A lot of times on Wednesday nights you don’t have the chance to really meet other people cause you just hang with those you already know. So, be there and do what you can to bring/invite someone to come along with you. Be sure to bring money for food and a drink:-) If you have any questions, just facebook me (Leonel Colon) or call the church office.

Last night in flipside!!! (9/28)

Last night was really awesome!!! Everything seemed to go over so well and the message was really impacting. There were several flipsiders that updated their status on facebook with what we hit on last night and that was awesome!!! I’ve got to admit, there are times that I wonder…. Are they listening? Are they getting this? I really felt that the message last night, really hit home for several students.

Before I share the notes on last night’s message, let me say THANK YOU for all of you that were involved in my B-day gift!!! To get $$$ is always nice and I was able to buy something that I’ve been keeping my eye on for sometime now. I was torn between 2 things but I think I made the better choice out of the 2:-) I will be able to use it at the office, home, and when I travel. I will show it to you guys on Wednesday night!!! I truly always look forward to Wednesday night cause I get to see all you flipsiders!!!Last night we started a new series titled “Weird” and we hit on “Weird in a God Way.” Here is a copy of my notes and I encourage you to follow a long:

  • Weird means involving or suggesting the supernatural, unearthly, or uncanny. It also means to be fantastic or bizarre.
  • Before I read this, I thought it was going to be talk about being “different” or “unusual.”
  • The way weird is defined, it really pumps me up cause this is what we are called to be.
  • Read that definition again and you can see what I mean….
  • As a follower of Christ we are to be involved/suggested with the supernatural, unearthly, and the uncanny.
  • We are not to be like this world (unearthly) and we are to walk in the supernatural.
  • Jesus walked in the supernatural, just read the the first 4 books of the New Testament and you will see what I mean.
  • So, you can probably see that there are very few people that can say they are “weird”
  • For those of you that are normal and not “weird” check this scripture out..
  • Read Matthew 7:13 & 14….
  • Many = those that are “normal” & few= those that are “weird”
  • The wide gate leads to hell (Just being real) and the narrow gate leads to heaven.
  • So, ask yourself this question: What gate are you walking through?
  • This is they way we need to look at it…
  • If you want what normal people have, do what normal people do.
  • If you want what few people have, then do what few people do.
  • When it comes to being “weird,” “weird” people don’t think like normal people think
  • Romans 12:2 (New International Revised Version)- Don’t live any longer the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what He wants is right….
  • You should want what God has for you, but if you are thinking like “normal” people do, then you are going to miss it.
  • Romans 12:2 (Message Bible)- Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out….
  • We need to fix our attention on GOD!!!
  • When you are “weird” you think about a couple of things differently…
  • You think about time, money, relationships, sex, and values not like all “normal” people do.
  • When you are “weird” you don’t live like normal people do…
  • 1 Peter 2:11 & 12- Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
  • If you claim to be a Christian which means to be “Christ-like” then you can easily see how we are to be “weird”
  • This world (Satan) is doing what they can to take out “normal” people and cause them to miss heaven
  • They are also doing what they can to reach the “weird” as well.

This is just something to think about… How do your friends view you? Are you “normal” or do they feel/know that there is something about you that is supernatural, unearthly, or uncanny? That’s what being “weird” is all about in a “God Way.” Be “weird” and walk in the life that God has called you to walk in. -Pastor Leo

2nd Annual 5th Quarter Dodgeball Tourney!!!

This event last year was a huge success!!! Do what you can to be apart of it this year. All you have to do is get a team together, register(with $$$), and be at flipside right at 10 PM on this night. Last year we had 12 teams and we had a great time. Feel free to put a team together of people that have never been to flipside but must meet the following criteria: 7th Grade – College age. Core students are more than welcome to be apart of this event. Hope you are able to make this event and start getting your team together now!!!

Tomorrow Night!!! (9-28)

We are beginning this new series tomorrow night and I am really excited about it!! When I looked up the definition of weird this morning as I was getting this message together, it really surprised and then I was more excited about series than I was in the first place. Don’t miss this tomorrow night and try your best to be here and bring/invite someone to come with you. This is going to be a great night. One more thing, take sometime and look up the definition of weird and I am sure you will like it yourself. Hope to see you tomorrow night!!! -Pastor Leo
