Last night @ flipside!!!

It was another great night @ flipside last night!! If you missed last night, we missed you!!! There are a few things that excite me more than watching several students at the altars during worship, lifting their hands high, and totally surrendering to God!!! The message was challenging as well, with several students saying they will do a better job of offering the “Bait” they have to offer to those outside the four walls of the church (I will explain in a bit). God has really been doing some great things in flipside and we are excited to see what He has in store for us in the coming summer months!!! Here is a recap of the message last night: (Be sure to check out previous posts for recaps)

  • If you looked up the word Christian, this is the definition you would get…
  • A Christian is a person professing belief in Jesus as the Christ or in the religion based on the teachings of Jesus.
  • When you read that definition, that really is a good one but there is something wrong with that definition.
  • It would have to be the phrase…”professing belief”
  • Anyone can believe in Jesus and the word “Christian” has lot a lot of  significance
  • To a lot of people that word used to hold a lot of value. It literally means “belonging to the party of Christ,” “follower of Christ,” or even “mini-Christs” as some used to say.
  • For a lot of people that is no longer the case.
  • There are a lot of people in this world that think the following…
  • Just because they believe in Jesus they think that makes them a Christian.
  • Just because they go to church every Sunday & Wednesday that makes them more of a Christian.
  • Just because they give in offerings and toward Speed the Light that makes them more of a Christian.
  • Just because they wear a t-shirt with scriptures on it, that makes them more of a Christian.
  • That is not what makes you a Christian!!!
  • What makes you a Christian is living out a true relationship with Jesus Christ!!!
  • THE TRUE MAKE OF A CHRISTIAN IS ONE THAT HAS A GENIUNINE LOVE FOR OTHER AND OBEYS THE WORD OF GOD!!!
  • Check this out… 1 John 2:4- If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth.
  • The best Bait that we have to offer is our relationship with God.
  • The when people see you, they know that you have a true/strong relationship with God.
  • They know where you stand on things and they don’t see compromise but they see that you truly have been transformed by God!!!
  • They don’t need to see someone that lives like them but someone that truly loves God.
  • We have been so consumed by what we can and can’t do and not consumed with how we can live a life that truly honors/glorifies HIM!!!
  • The best bait we have is the example that we can live!!!!
  • ITS NOT SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY, ITS ABOUT HOW YOU LIVE!!!!

This is how we are going to bring change flipsiders!!! Living this out and not living a life of double standards!!! We are not supposed to be like everyone else, we are supposed to be different!!! You can do it and you are not alone. Rebekah and I believe in you and its time to rise to the occasion!!! – Pastor Leo

Last night Recap (5/9)

It was another great night at flipside!!! Worship was awesome and we ended worship w/ flipsiders praying for on another. The message went over well, with at least 20 students coming to the altars for prayer. They were saying that they no longer want to choose death but life!!! If you missed last night at flipside, we missed you!!! Hope to see you next Wednesday night as we continue the “Bait” series. Here are some key notes from last nights sermon:

  • Last week we hit on “The Bait of Satan,” last night we hit on “The Bait of God.”
  • There are several things that He has to offer us but we only hit on some key ones…
  • #1- God offers us a way out of darkness
  • Read John 12:44-46
  • When we take the bait of Satan, we will find ourselves in darkness.
  • God takes us out of that darkness and brings us to the light!!!
  • #2- God offers us a satisfaction and an end to our inner thirst
  • Read John 6:35
  • When you think about how you feel when you out of a relationship with God, there is that guilt, remorse, and even resentment.
  • When you live according to how God wants you to live, there is that sense of satisfaction, accomplishment, and fulfillment!!
  • You don’t feel hopeless and continue to try to find something to take place of the way you may feel.
  • When you truly trust in God being your source, that is when your satisfaction is met and your thirst is quenched.
  • #3- God offers us direction in life.
  • Read John 8:12
  • There are some ways you can tell if you have lost your sense of direction…
  • If you are wondering whether or not you will make it to heaven if you died right now.
  • If you are struggling with sin in your life and dont know what to do.
  • If you have a hard time worshipping God.
  • Its time that you truly trust in Him and allow Him to direct your life!!
  • #4- God offers us forgiveness of our sins….
  • Read 1 John 1:9
  • This is one of the key baits that God has to offer us!!
  • When we sin, all we have to do is confess it and He will forgive us.
  • Its that easy!!! Though we make it so difficult at times.
  • We have a tendency to just give up and totally forget the main reason God sent His Son to die on the cross for us!!!
  • #5- God offers us eternal life!!!
  • Read John 6:40
  • The main question would be this…
  • WHY CHOOSE DEATH, WHEN YOU CAN HAVE LIFE?!?!?!?!?!?!
  • To choose the bait that Satan has to offer is to choose death.
  • To choose the bait that God has to offer is to choose life.
  • Think about this…
  • Satan didn’t sacrifice anything for you, nor does He really have anything to offer you.
  • Satan offers darkness, he doesn’t offer satisfaction, he doesn’t offer direction, he doesn’t offer forgiveness for your sins (he wants you to mess up), and he doesn’t offer you eternal life but DEATH!!!
  • So why live for Satan when you can live for GOD!!!
  • Really think about the bait you are taking!!!

Hope to see you next week and know we are here for you!!! Reach out and invite someone to come with you next week to flipside!! -Pastor Leo and Rebekah

Recap of Last Night (5/2)

Last night we began this new series titled: “Bait.” By the response at the end of flipside it seemed like it really challenged several students. Thanks to those of you that came out last night in the midst of the horrible weather!!! If you missed last night, we truly missed you all of you!!!  With this new series we are going to hit on three different areas: 1. The Bait of this world, 2. The Bait that God has for us, & 3. The Bait that we have to offer!!! This is going to be a great series and if you missed last night or want to review, here are some key notes:

  • The word bait means food used to entice fish or other animals as prey. The synonym of bait is lure, decoy, and enticement.
  • If you know anything about fishing, you know how important it is for you to have “bait.”
  • It is very difficult to catch fish if you don’t have bait. Something to lure/entice them in or even to decoy as something they would want.
  • When you think about fishing and how bait is involved to catch fish, it can easily be applied to how we are baited in this world.
  • Think about it… every single day of our lives, as soon as we get up, and till the time we close our eyes at night we are baited by things of this world.
  • That bait, would be temptation for us. There is that bait that is set out there for us to be lured/enticed from having a relationships with God.
  • There are so many people that have been enticed/lured and set up with decoys that have kept them from having any type of relationship with God.
  • In this world, it could be explained like this….. Satan is the fisherman and we are the fish. Satan just sets the bait and we are the ones that take it.
  • We have no right to blame Satan for our mishaps, mistakes, failures, and so on…
  • The only person to truly place the blame on is ourselves!!! Check this out….
  • Read James 1:14
  • We are dragged away & enticed by own our desires!!! By what we feed ourselves and allow to come into our lives!!!
  • The main reason we struggle with sin a lot of times is because we have allowed compromise in our lives.
  • Whether its something we have watched, heard, read, and so on. That’s why its so important that we are careful with how we entertain ourselves!!!
  • Read James 1:14 & 15
  • When we feed our desires, we give birth to sin, and then that leads to death. You end up with nothing because you wanted to entertain yourself.
  • We can only blame ourselves for where we find ourselves!!! Cant blame mom, dad, your past, brother, auntie, cousin, and so on.
  • WE NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS AND STOP BLAMING OTHERS!!!
  • WE ARE THE ONE THAT ARE LURED/ENTICED BY THE BAIT & TAKE IT!!!
  • A couple of more scriptures that explain somethings more in depth….
  • Read Hebrews 4:15
  • We cant see that Jesus has no clue when it comes to being tempted, He was baited just like we were but He didn’t get lured in like we do.
  • Read 1 Corinthians 10:13
  • God helps us in every way to not fall under temptation. He provides a way out for all of us.

From this moment on flipsiders, take responsibility for your mistakes. Don’t blame no one else or anything else. We find ourselves in the places we are because of what we have allowed ourselves to be lured/enticed by. Stop taking the BAIT and know that God is going to help us and be there at all times!!!

See you next Wednesday!!! Be sure to take sometime to invite someone to come with you. Not for the sake of filling flipside up but for the sake of someone having the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior. -Pastor Leo

Last night recap and reminders!!! (4/25)

Last night was truly an amazing night @ flipside!!! God really did some amazing things during worship and Sun Belt Masters Commission did a great job with their presentation.

Worship lasted about 45 minutes as we prayed for students and just worshipped God!!! At flipside we want to allow God to have His way and we don’t want to put Him in a box and do things our way. Always come expecting God to do something in your life and be free in your worship. Allow Him to wreck your life and have total control of it!!!

Sun Belt did their thing and it really touched the lives of some students!!! Thanks Sun Belt and we are looking forward to having you come again next year!!!

flipsiders, be sure to reach out to your friends and live the lifestyle that God has called you to live!!! Our desire and goal should be that when people see you, they see something different about you. They should want whats living inside you!!! You live in a way that totally portrays that!!!

Come expecting next week and ready to worship God!!!

Recap of this past Wednesday Night!! (4/18)

If you missed this past Wednesday night we really missed you!!! Service was great and we actually had a decent crowd, even though we were in the middle of spring break for a lot of you. Here is a recap of the message and if you missed any of the past weeks, take some time now to refer to those as well.

  • This past Wednesday night we hit on “Climbing out of the Dip.”
  • Refer to last weeks recap to see what being in the “dip” is all about.
  • Habakkuk in the midst of all that was going on, knew and understood that it wasn’t good for him to remain in this state of mind.
  • Read Habakkuk 3:2
  • The word “renew” in this scripture means to revive or to restore.
  • Habakkuk was asking God to revive this day, restore this day, to help him get out of the dip.
  • He was telling God, I know what you are capable of doing.
  • He wasn’t asking God to change the situation but in the midst of all this, he was praising God.
  • When you find yourself in the “dip” that is really the only way you are going to overcome a lot of things you face in life.
  • To praise God in the midst of your situation/problem is telling God that you are going to trust Him no matter what.
  • When in the “dip” and you truly want to get out, not only do you need to praise God but you also need to do a couple of important things….
  • #1- Remember what God has done in your life.
  • Read Habakkuk 3:4-6
  • Habakkuk was going back to the days that God came through for Him and did some great things.
  • When we go back to those moments we realize that God is faithful and He hears our prayers and knows what we are going through.
  • #2- Accept what God is doing.
  • Read Habakkuk 3:16
  • Habakkuk was feeling the same way we do when we encounter these times in life.
  • He was rattled by this circumstance but yet he still praised God in the midst of it.
  • #3- Trust in what God will do
  • Read Habakkuk 3:17 & 18
  • Habakkuk sees and realizes that its only going to get worse and not get any better anytime soon.
  • In the midst of seeing all this unfold, he says that he is going to rejoice and be joyful.
  • When was the last time you didn’t first complain and first praised/worshipped God?
  • Read Habakkuk 3:19
  • God is with us every step of the way!!!

THE BEST WE CAN DO IN ANY SITUATION IS TRUST IN HIM, WAIT ON HIM,

AND PRAISE HIM WHILE WE ARE WAITING!!!

Hope to see you next week as we have some special guest coming!!! You don’t want to miss it and know we are here for you!!!

-Pastor Leo and Rebekah
