Last night in flipside (9/21)!!!

Last night was another great night at flipside!!! Worship was awesome and the message seemed to go over well. We had the altars full of students saying they want to be used by God and 2 students made a decision to live for Jesus!!! It was great and also several students dressed in their team gear and that was awesome as well. Thanks to all of those that participated in Pride Night and invited someone to come with them. I am ready for Friday night’s 5th Quarter:

It’s not too late to sign up for this!!! Just show up at 10 PM when the doors open and pay your $3!!! You have a chance to win $50, so what do you have to lose;-) Here is a recap on what was hit on last night as we wrapped up our current series on “Doubt:”
1. Lets look at the way pride is defined…
- Pride is a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.
- Basically, pride is someone that is full of themselves
- We all know that you cannot walk in pride and have an effective relationship with God
- To really have pride is to say you don’t need God at all and you can do it all on your own
- That isn’t the direction we are heading , but I feel where we are heading is even worse….
- Last night we hit on, “I Doubt God Can Use Me”
- Some of you are thinking right now, How does this apply to pride?
- It’s very simple and this is how…
- Some of you, if not a lot of you doubt God can or will ever use you
- That “thought process” in itself can easily be seen as Pride
- If you think that way, you have to much pride in a negative sense in your sin, failures, or insecurities that God is not able to use you
- Let me show you a scripture in the Bible that should change your mindset on how God can use all of us….
- Ephesians 2:10- we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.
- The word masterpiece means a product with a designated purpose
- So, that means that we all were created with a designated purpose.
- He created us anew in Christ Jesus.
- We were all created to do good things that He planned for us a long time ago.
- Before you were even thought of in parents minds or even before your parents came into this world, God had good things planned for you.
- Doesn’t that just mess up your thinking about God using you
- There are several of you that have thought that God cant use you, but right here you see how He wants to use you
- We’ve got it all wrong when it comes to God using people
- God has a funny way of doings things and its usually in a way we thought He wouldn’t do things
- Who does God most often use?
- God uses the Insecure
- Exodus 4:10- Moses said to the LORD, “O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.”
- This is right after Moses finds out that God wants to use Him to lead the Israelites out of slavery
- Moses, knows that He will have to do a lot of speaking but God goes on to say…
- Exodus 4:11-12- The LORD said to (Moses), “Who gave man his mouth?… Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”
- God uses the insecure, and there are some of you in here tonight that you find yourself waist deep in insecurities
- God wants to use you!!!
- God uses the unlikely
- 1 Samuel 16:6-7- …Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’s anointed stands here before the LORD.” But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
- When you think about God possibly using “you”
- We have a tendency to also think about all the reasons why on the outside He shouldn’t or wouldn’t use us
- We think about all the people in this world that are in the limelight and seem to have it all together
- God has a way to use those that are unlikely…
- God also uses the failures
- Luke 22:60-62- Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter…And (Peter) went outside and wept bitterly.
- This just happened a little while after Peter told Jesus that He would never deny Him
- Peter was confronted 3 times about being a follower of Christ when Jesus was to be crucified and Peter denied it 3 times
- You would think that Jesus wouldn’t forgive Peter for denying Him in a moment that He needed to stand for Christ more than ever
- That wasn’t the case….
- In the midst of Peter’s failures, God used Peter to do great things
- Acts 2:38, 41- Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins…Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
- I am the perfect example of God forgiving someone and using them…
- I was liar, cheater, stealer, took advantage of people, lived in sexual sin, and the list goes on and on.
- God is using me today and I know He will continue to do so…
- There is one key to you being used and its very simple….
- YOU HAVE TO STEP OUT TO FIND OUT
- Matthew 14:28-29- Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
- Peter took a step. God is waiting for you to take that step
- He wants you to forget about your insecurity, how unlikely you are, and your failures.
- What has God been calling you to do? What step do you need to take?
So, really take some time and think about that. What has God been calling you to do? What has he been telling you to do for some time now? Its all about you stepping out and living the life God had created you for. Would you rather have what this world has for you? Or, would you rather have what God has for you? Just something to think about….
Hope to see you next Wednesday night!!! Try your best to bring/invite someone to come with you.
